I follow few blogs. Even fewer livejournals these days. But this one was shared by my sig other and it just had me laughing...
Apparently this poor guy is a linux advocate and was loading it on machines for kids. There is so much more going on in the blog it is worth reading. My favorite excerpts (by now already seen by slashdot fans):
No software is free and spreading that misconception is harmful.
...putting linux on these machines is holding our kids back
This is a world where Windows runs on virtually every computer and putting on a carnival show for an operating system is not helping these children at all. I am sure if you contacted Microsoft, they would be more than happy to supply you with copies of an older verison of Windows and that way, your computers would actually be of service to those receiving them
So for a few years now my gf and I have enjoyed roller derby.
This confession is sometimes met with amusement, somethings with disappointment.
Some feel this is fine, others concern themselves with the sexploitation of the women involved.
Regardless, our local paper did a write up on our local heroes and it captures some of why we really enjoy this sport:

It's also cool cause our friend is in one of the pictures.
sitting in my forensics lab looking at.. a Compaq Presario 1680... no power supply or battery.
Sometimes this work is entertaining; especially when someone drops one of these. 1680 is not only the series
number but from the look of it, the year it was released.
I know I could just crack the case and start fishing but I really prefer to follow mfg directions for opening these
systems up.
So my someday mission is.. create a library of user manuals for machines that poor schmoes like me can go look up system schematics, etc. I suspect it is out there somewhere.. waiting for me to find it like Indy found the Arc of the covenant...

How could the weekend get any better...
A friend in from out of town.
And Women's Flat Track Roller Derby National Championships held in PDX.
Unfortunately my own home team did not make it into the quals :( so it looks like I may have to pull for the seattle team - though I did see the Bay Area Derby Girls at a California championship and they are bad ass.
Seattle's team: http://www.ratcityrollergirls.com
Derby is fun, kickass, and server awful beer. it should be witnessed at least once in life - so this weekend ain't a bad time to do it!

Er.. wtf?
That's a pretty creepy message and one I have been wrestling with... you got it. Oct 30th.
Nothing on the web.. time to dig deeper.
Hotel room in Longview WA ........................... $75.00
5 drinks at starbucks to stay warm/awake....... $25.00
Replacing a tent destroyed by 30MPH winds.. $100.00
Watching 2 whippets sleep peacefully all over
each other ............................................ PRICELESS
This weekend we took the dogs lure coursing. They go absolutely insane when in the field then crash HARD after they are done. It's fun to watch. This weekend though the site was hit with massive rain/wind storms which tore apart numerous pop up tents, etc.
This picture is them in their kennel in the car en route home.
Awesome. 3 biz days to get an assessment done.
Love people who properly plan projects.
Having survived the joy of executing a get together @ work I am back to the usual - no more biz casual.
The only scars appear to be something I now have in common with Marcus Ranum & Gadi Evron...
I think one of the few things that brings the hairs on the back of my neck to stand tall is the gutt syncing feeling
of cold coffee hitting your tongue - looking over where you procured the cup from and asking yourself..
"Was that the coffee I bought today... or yesterday.. or maybe Monday..."
Fear the cold coffee.
